COURSE DESCRIPTION

This unit applies to personnel who respond to an incident involving dangerous goods and hazardous substances and who have the skills and knowledge to identify and assess the hazards and risks and contribute to the development, implementation and review of the plan constructed to mitigate the risk they pose the public and environment.

‘Hazardous materials incident’ is a generic term used to refer to an incident involving any material such as dangerous goods and hazardous substances that poses an unreasonable risk to life, property and the environment.

At the end of this course students will be able to demonstrate:

  • decontamination principles and procedures

  • legislation relevant to the organisation

  • methods of identifying hazardous materials

  • mitigation (confinement/containment) techniques

  • nature and properties of hazardous materials

  • organisational policies and procedures

  • PPE procedures

  • principles of incident control

  • scene control and site isolation

ENTRY REQUIREMENT
  • Ability to read, write and understand English

  • Present photo I.D. on arrival

  • Complete a ‘Fitness to Complete Training’ form. The student is required to declare any medical issue that may exclude them from full participation

  • Wear normal work clothing, enclosed footwear

Training can be conducted at your work site or off-site at one of our purpose built training facilities.

Initial Spills Response (4 Hours)

Our spill response training course can cover a range of topics including, but not exclusive to, how to clean up a spill effectively and the different type of spill accidents that can potentially occur in the workplace.

Training your staff will ensure they will know what to do in the event of a spill and use proper incident response procedures. By undertaking our thorough training, your staff will be competent in the handling of a spill emergency in the event of an accident.
